Design Crush of the Week: Victoria Hagen
One of the biggest goals of many interior designers is to develop a clear aesthetic that is uniquely their own; to have people glance at one of your creations and instantly recognize it to be your work. This is not easy, especially when it is imperative that each space feels fresh and new, never taking too many elements from one's previous design work. Victoria Hagen has mastered the art of new design, while maintaining her own inventive stamp. Her interiors look inspired and cultivated, yet clearly feel very "Victoria Hagen". Her signature style is often played out in the Hamptons estates she designs, which are all about casual elegance. She tends to work with a muted color palette, layering natural elements into her design concepts. Named Designer of the Year by Elle Decor in 2006, Hagen continues to be a lasting design force. Here are some of our favorite Hagen designs. Enjoy! http://www.victoriahagan.com

JuJu Hats And Their Integration Into Interior Design
About two years ago, while shopping at The Garage, a flea market in New York City, I came across the most beautiful feathered wall art. (I assumed it was wall art, and use it as such in my own home). It wasn't until I took my "unique" find home, that I started noticing similar feathered creations in design magazines, and blogs. To my surprise, I was taking part in a design trend. I did a little research, and learned that their formal name is Juju hat. (Referred to also as Babileke headdress or Tyn). These creations originated in Cameroon, where they were traditionally worn by the most important tribesmen. For many years, the feathers used to create the JuJu hat came from the feathers of parrots or other exotic birds. Here are some photos of the Juju hat in its natural habitat, as well as its integration into design.

The Drama of Black and White
Bold and dramatic color has the power to transform an interior. And while we love bright pops of vivid hues, we also have a strong appreciation for the impact that a black and white design scheme gives. The use of these two "neutral" colors can transform a room and make it look anything but plain. Here is a look at some of our favorite rooms that use black and white to set the stage and create a dramatic space. Which is your favorite?
